August 1889 - Sara Jane

Aug 1 Thurs
Very warm. All on Island. Iss, I at town afternoon.

Aug 2 Fri
Fine. Maggie called. Men on Island.

Aug 3 Sat
Cloudy. Men went home at noon. Mary went to chapel. Jim took buckwheat and wool to mill.

Aug 4 Sun
Very fine. Jim took Mr Kelly on Island. Ace M children came down from Settlement tonight. Mary walked home from Village.

Aug 5 Mon
Men all here. Fine till four o'clock then rain fast. Jim down at Sills.

Aug 6 Tues
Fine, warm. Rob, men came on Island. Our men on Island all day. Killed sheep.

Aug 7 Wed
Fog in morning. Thunder shower in afternoon. Children and I on Island in Tom's barn during the shower. Tom went home tonight on horse back. Mr Montgomery called.

Aug 8 Thurs
Cloudy. John Sharp went home. Finished this afternoon. Had a shower. Put poultice on Jean's head.

Cloudy. Men on Island.

Aug 10 Sat
Cloudy. Jim, Jean, I at town. Took Jean to Dr Coulthard. Mrs Brundige, Edna Long came in boat. Came up with us. Men cutting oats.

Aug 11 Sun
Wet in morning. No-one here except Mrs B and children.

Aug 12 Mon
Tom, Rob and John Murray called. Mrs B went to Isses for dinner. Tom finished on Island. Mrs B went up to John Murray's with him on his way from town.

Aug 13 Tues
Fine. Cut barley and oats morning. Finished haying afternoon. Colt went him Nickleson's.

Aug 14 Wed
Fine. Jim took Jean to Dr Coulthard's. Men hauled in all the barley. I picked tomatoes for pickles. Miss Brown called. Dave, Clem went home tonight.

Aug 15 Thurs
Raining hard all night, rain all day. Jim went up to Tom's for Mrs Brundige afternoon.

Aug 16 Fri
Raining little. Mrs B and I go to town afternoon. It just pours all the time. I took apples to Mame. called to see Dr C about Jean's head.

Aug 17 Sat
Mrs B and children went down to Saint John in boat today. Jim took them to town. William only man here now. He digging potatoes. Picked on barrel of apples. Dave left for good.

Aug 18 Sun
Fine warm. Mrs Tenant called. Mary up road. Had some corn for dinner. Iss, Ralph in town all day.

Aug 19 Mon
Cloudy. Jim and William put in two loads of wheat.

Aug 20 Tues
Jim hauling in grain.

Aug 21 Wed
Very warm. I took apples to town morning.

Aug 22 Thurs
Cloudy and very sultry. Jim, William and I picked 8 barrels of apples afternoon. I took wool to Mes Leeks.

Very warm. I took apples to town. Jim, W hauled oats from over gulley.

Very fine and warm. Jim took apples to town. Got a barrel of flour.

Fine warm. Jim, children and I up to Tom's.

Fine. Washed. Jim, W hauling in oats.

Aug 27 Tues
Fine. Men hauled wood to Wheeler's. I at Mr Allen's evening. Picked cucumbers to pickle.

Aug 28 Wed
Fine, very warm. I make Rob suit. Men hauled wood to Wheeler's. Baptist picnic.

Aug 29 Thurs
Very dry and hot. Jim took some corn to town. I cut my wrapper. Picked apples afternoon.

Aug 30 Fri
Very hot. Jim at Mr Sewell's sale. Haul wood to Wheeler. Jim, I at town with apples afternoon. Rob here for dinner. William picked apples.

Aug 31 Sat
Very hot and dry. Jim at town with last load of New Brunswick Apples. William digging potatoes. Mary went up to Goodine's.
