May 1938 - Huldah

May 1 Sun Millen went to Ruth's with Joe Hurley at night. Rained in daytime. Edie Burrell and Christine and George Burrell came up.

May 2 Mon Nice day but windy. Millen went to Ruth's all day. I packed my things. Tressa and John came up at night. Tillie at Francis'.

May 3 Tues Very windy. Burns came home at noon and prepared for camp tomorrow. I was at Tressa's. She and John up.

May 4 Wed Millen and I moved to Ruth's. Some men helped move the piano and put the bed up. I walked down about 9am.

May 5 Thurs Millen and Burns went to build a camp. Ruth went up to her mother's with Lee Hanson. Margie M up.

May 6 Fri We painted the counter and windows of store. Margie and Bessie up awhile. Millen and Burns came home at night.

May 7 Sat Mr and Mrs A etc and Millen went to town. I waited for Lee H. Jeanie came down in afternoon. Annie McCashion and Annie Bennie here.

May 8 Sun Cloudy. Ruth went to church in morning. Millen, Joe H and I walked to Anderson's and Mr A and Aubrey brought up back. Millen kept store.

May 9 Mon A beautiful day. Min and Chas went away. I was up home. Mr A here a few minutes. Joe B, Joe H and Earl M came up. (Min was Huldah's and Millen's mother's pet name for Millen.)

May 10 Tues Rained at night. I walked up to Anderson's. Aubrey brought me back and I kept store while Ruth went up. I wrote to Dr M yesterday. Charlie came home for a while.

May 11 Wed Cloudy and some rain. Charlie came home with order from Kitchen Brothers. Ruth and I popped corn. Rained. Earle M and Alf King here.

May 12 Thurs Cleared off some. Bread and beer men here. Ruth up to her mother's. Aubrey brought her down. Earle M here. Rained all night.

May 13 Fri Charlie came home at noon. Rained all day and night. I wrote to Helen yesterday. Mum and Dad went to the play.

May 14 Sat Rained a little. Mrs A, Aubrey, Guy, Edie and John Ball went to town. Got me some things. Millen came home at night with Burns' horse.

May 15 Sun Rained all day and night. Millen and I up to Anderson's to dinner and supper. Jeanie home for weekend. Joe H up also.

May 16 Mon Still raining. Cleared off a bit about 5pm. Millen and Ruth up to Anderson's. Bill MacCashion up and Tyler down. Franklin here at night.

May 17 Tues Rained in morning but Chas went to camp. Millen and I up to Anderson's to supper. Came back and had fiddleheads for a lunch. Cleared off at night. Evelene King's baby born at 5am.

May 18 Wed Millen went up to his home at 5am and got Burns' horse and went to camp. Ruth lost three chickens. Earle M up to hear Amateur half hour.

May 19 Thurs Nice warm day but hazy. Ruth washed. Earle up. Franklin and Earle here at night.

May 20 Fri Started raining in afternoon. Ruth washed and I ironed. Helen's airmail letter came. Earle up.

May 21 Sat Mr and Mrs A went to town. Ruth and I cooked and ironed. Millen home at night but went to town at night with George Burrell.

May 22 Sun Jeanie down last night. Ruth went to church at night. Daddy took Jeanie to town. Guy took Millen down.

May 23 Mon Charlie went down fishing. Gertie came down all afternoon and evening and brought the baby.

May 24 Tues Gertie came down to supper. Popeye and George came down later and took Gertie home.

May 25 Wed Mr and Mrs A and Tressa went to town and left Flora with us. Charlie up all day and planted a garden. Ruth went to choir practice.

May 26 Thurs Della Buckley and Alex Palmer married. Ruth and Myrtle went. Millen, Guy and Joe H went to shivaree. Millen home all night.

May 27 Fri Millen took a spell so didn't go work. Went to Dr MacKenzie with his mother and got some pills.

May 28 Sat Mr and Mrs A and Millen, Tressa, etc, went to town. Jeanie came up and Millen came up with Daddy. Jeanie in at night awhile.

May 29 Sun Millen and I to Anderson's to dinner and supper. Rained.
