July 1889 - Sara Jane

Jul 1 Monday
William went away this morning. Jim took him to town. Moses hoeing corn. Rob packed wool tonight. Very warm and dry.

Jul 2 Tuesday
Very dry and hot. Crops are burning up with heat. Jim working on roads. One man here hoeing corn. Italian here all night.

Jul 3 Wednesday
Very dry. Jim on roads. ? hoeing corn. Uncle Rob went to Saint John.

Jul 4 Thursday
Very dry. Men working as usual.

Jul 5 Friday
Very dry. Jim putting green on potatoes. Moses Ephrim here. I up to see Mary Martin with Annie C.

Jul 6 Saturday
Cloudy but not one drop of rain. Jim, Mr Allen went to town. Mary Davidson, Miss Jean Barber came by boat from Saint John. Had strawberries for tea.

Jul 7 Sunday
Cloudy, looks like rain. Ace M here. Iss, R and girls here all day. No one went to church.

Jul 8 Monday
Note one drop of rain or dew. Everything is very dry. Picnic up to Uncle James'. Girls went over. Maggie, Mable called, also John and Charles Murray. No man today.

Jul 9 Tuesday
Not one drop of rain yet. Iss kept house. I went to Mame's with girls. Jim Clayton here for dinner.

Jul 10 Wednesday
Very dry and cool nights. Maggie Murray came for girls this morning. Jim Campbell came home from Scotland. Iss met him in town. Jim Mitchell there. Jean got her nose cut. Men hoeing potatoes up hill.

Jul 11 Thursday
Very hot. I weeding. Ephrim and Frank hoeing potatoes. Iss brought me a nice silk handkerchief that came from Scotland.

Jul 12 Friday
Cloudy and little rain. Jim burnt bushes up at the road. Tom Gray and Mary Davidson went to town. They got tea here on their way home. Men hoeing corn. Mrs Leek scrubbed for me.

Jul 13 Saturday
Very dry and warm. Jim at town. Took Tom's wool. Jim C mowing for the first.

Jul 14 Sunday
Raining this morning, a good shower. No one here all day.

Jul 15 Monday
Fine and cool. Men hoeing corn.

Jul 16 Tuesday
Fine, cool. Six men here thinning turnips. Iss, I at Mrs Allen's evening. William came at noon.

Jul 17 Wednesday
Very dry and warm. Finished hoeing corn. Men thinning turnips. Jim commence to mow for the first. Mary Davidson, Miss Barber went home. Green peas for dinner. I dug new potatoes for first.

Jul 18 Thursday
Very dry and warm. Men hauling hay in. Creed's came to Camp. I very tired today.

Jul 19 Friday
Still dry. Jim took mowing machine on Island. Two men went home tonight. I sick. Mrs Leek here half day. Mary Murray, Maggie, Nin, Mame, Iss here. Sarah C afternoon. Opened flour barrel.

Jul 20 Saturday
Raining steady all day. Jim went to town afternoon. Men got hay out of Mrs Straton's barn. I went over to see Bessie Allen. Mrs James Jewitt buried. Second wife.

Jul 21 Sunday
Cloudy. Mr Mrs Creed and children at the shore. Mrs Currie buried. Jim, children I at funeral. After went to Tom's.

Jul 22 Monday
Cloudy. Men on island. Jim at home. Mary came at noon.

Jul 23 Tuesday
Cloudy. Men thinning turnips up hill. I went up hill to get berries. Jim on island afternoon.

Jul 24 Wednesday
Cloudy. Jim at town. Big wagon took Jean to Dr with her head. John Sharp came on island afternoon.

Jul 25 Thursday
Fine, very windy. Men all on island. R Murray here to go to island. Water raising in river.

Jul 26 Friday
Good hay weather. Murrays went on island to cut grass. I stewed apples for the first. Mame, children up Settlement.

Jul 27 Saturday
Good day. John Sharp went home tonight. Everyone tired tonight. Jean's head better. Maggie Murray called. I sick all night.

Jul 28 Sunday
Fine rain last night. Rob Gray called, also Jim and Iss. Cloudy all day. Jean has sick head ache.

Jul 29 Monday
Cloudy. Men came at noon. Will, Celia Kinghorn and Sarah Hanselpecker here all day.

Jul 30 Tuesday
Very sultry. Put in two loads of hay. Clem cleaned cellar.

Jul 31 Wednesday
Cloudy. All on island.
